Last night was great!

Drop Dead Gorgeous - Most people had already seen this, but we all still laughed out loud, and forgot some of the jokes. Those who hadn't seen it before agreed that it was well worth watching, and not too girly. I can't help feeling that the end is a bit rushed, however.

We didn't get to watch Shimotsuma Monogatari, as it doesn't work on my dvd player, and my computer screen is too big for 8 of us to squeeze round, so we watched

My Wife is a Gangster - I was the only person who had seen this, and I was scared I thought it was great because I saw it in America, and was jaded with love for my Jhenn. Not true! This is an amazingly funny Korean film, while predictable, it has just enough violence [only minor, nothing like Casino] and character building to make the ending work. I would reccomend this to anyone that can sit through reading subtitles.

Next week:
        A Tale of Two Sisters

Film Night

Aug. 8th, 2005 12:50 pm
mofette: (Parasol)
So far attendees for tonight night are:
[ profile] cat_in_a_box,
Gemma [Martin's wife]
Catherine [Barman at the brickies' girlfriend]

To watch
Drop Dead Gorgeous - In a small Minnesota town, the annual beauty pagent is being covered by a TV crew. Former winner Gladys Leeman wants to make sure her daughter follows in her footsteps. Explosions, falling lights, and trailer fires prove that. As the Leemans are the richest family in town the police are pretty relaxed about it all. Despite everything, main rival (but nice) Amber Atkins won't be stopped. There could well be more death and disappointment to come.
Shimotsuma Monogatari - Movie starring Kyoko Fukada and Anna Tsuchiya, about the unexpected friendship of two completely opposite characters: Momoko (Fukada) dressed sweetly in frills and lace is the ultimate Japanese Lolita character, while Ichigo (Tsuchiya) is the dirty-mouthed delinquent. Among other things, enjoy the gap of Momoko's character who looks all innocent and childish on the outside, but inside, is really nobody's fool.

I need replies from people for definate answers, or there'll be no sofa space for you

Starts at 6:45!

So, this week's film night was a bit of a disaster. Again.

Catherine was in Nottingham, Anna and Leeny went after the first one and no-one else was there but [ profile] cat_in_a_box, Jon and I for the second film, so we canned it. Watched Secretary though.

Probably going to watch Audition this weekend.

Next monday is

8 August 2005
Drop Dead Gorgeous
Shimotsuma Monogatari

and I'd appreciate any people who are coming to tell me NOW so that we don't wait for people arriving again.

I'm looking forward to the Haloween special though!

So, with [ profile] cat_in_a_box and I both being roleplay widows and not seeing our other halves much, we have gotten behind with all the film-watching we used to do before we got jobs.

We have decided to make a pro-active stand and actually bother to watch the films I've got, two each Monday from 7pm onwards.

We are also fed-up of going "No, I'm not in the mood for that" and films like Monster, which I've wanted to see for a long time, have been neglected, so we have made a timetable, and drawn movies out of a hat.

Underneath here are the listings for the next 10 months!! )

So, who'se coming over on Monday!?!?!
