(no subject)
Sep. 2nd, 2002 03:31 pmWell, another month, and another thing to have to come to terms with.
My host family aren't exactly what I've been expecting. The Okasan (mother) picked me up from Uni, and one of the first things that was said (and it took another interpreter to get it across) was that they wanted me to dye my hair. This = Not a happy Mofette. I got upset, I cried, but I did agree to doing it. Sheesh, if something like hair colour upsets someone, then perhaps they shouldn't have agreed to host people. This may seem like a pretty petty thing to argue about, but my mum dyes my hair. It was like, well there goes the last part of my induviduality. Next people will start thinking I'm American. (No offense Guys, but being English is something I'm a little proud of, same as you are). Cried when I realised my comfortable life in Seminar House 2 was about to be broken, sulked.
When we got to her house, she really made an effort to speak English, which was funny, 'cause I was trying to speak Japanese. We managed a few sentences, and even though her English was better than my Japanese (Not hard) we were occasionally consulting her translator. When Otosan (Father) came home, he didn't bat an eyelid at my hair. More conversations later and after I gave out English presents, the children came home. I say Children, but they're both older than me (not hard, I've not found anyone younger than me here) but hey, they were loverly! I mean, they straight away jumped on me with shouts of "Kawaii, Kawaii" and were pulling at hair and clothes and jewellery!
After talking to them for a while, they took me out to show me how to get to Uni. Then there were no buses, so obasan picked me up in the car! We all went into Hirakata city, then tried to buy a Mobile phone. Nothing doing, so I went off to get a hairdye. Then Okasan said I don't have to get one! The Girls had told me not to buy some, and to disobey their mother, but I wasn't so sure! So off we went to a KeitenSushi restaurant. It was fantastically delicious, veryvery busy, but veryvery cheap! I understand now what the people at the meeting said by "don't tell your family if you like something, when in reality you don't" as everytime me squid (Ika) came by, it was swiped and shoved under my nose! (^_^) I think I ate too much though, as I had squid tummy (AGAIN)
Once we got home, I listened to some music with the girls, then sloped off to my room. It's 6 tatami mats and there's a very thin futon in there. My hips hurt again (-_-;;) I've got all my stuff unpacked, and I'm hiding my washing so that I can do it myself. Shame the room is on a main road, as I'm used to my nice quiet village! Too many car horns and flashing pachinko parlours nearby! Breakfast was nice but there was too much of it! I'm quite happy not having breakfast, like I do in England!
Went to try and buy a mobile phone again today, Couldn't find one :( All the shops appear to have sold out of pre-pay ones that have English on them. I REALLY need a mobile! There's people I want to text, some I want to but shouldn't, some that want to text me, and they look really cool. Instead I found a Claire's acessories, and bought 10 things for \500. That's about two pound fifty to you and me guys! (^_^) *perks*
So, I'm about to head back to the house and stay in my room. I guess I'm not the right sort of person to stay in a homestay, although I'm not going to change where I am, I don't want to be any more trouble :( I'll just wait until next semester, after Christmas
