It does sound like a nightmarish sitation to be in... like something out of a Japanese horror flick, to be honest. :-(
Still, there's part of me that can't help not feeling that sorry for the guy writing about it. It was pretty obvious early on that his house mate was losing the plot... yet he chose to ignore the situation. I couldn't have done that. The moment someone starts leaving shit around you know it's time to get professional help!
It seems to me that he let the situation go for as long as he could so that he wouldn't have to pay very much rent. I couldn't live with myself if I was to deliberately profit from someone else's suffering. I would be horrified with myself had I allowed another human being to sink into such a desperate state!
But that is only my opinion, going on what I read. :-) I'm very aware of the fact that when faced with something like that in real life it probably isn't so easy to make decisions.
