The dress was on its way, everything else was being taken care of by the planners at the hotel and I just had to look after any music, requests for the DJs, little things like that.

I called the hotel to ask about children; we didn't want any at the wedding but it would appear that due to family things (isn't it always) it was unavoidable. There was pull-out beds, so they could stay and also be squished into the table plan. Emma at the hotel also asked if there was anything else we needed on the bar. They were providing beer and wine so I asked for Jagermeister. I thought that there would at some point be celebratory shots, so we needed that. No problem she said.

The dresses for the bridesmaids arrived, but they weren't amazing so I started alterations; putting nicer ribbon through the eyelets, changing the sleeves so that they weren't completely comedy. I also started sewing the Best Man's outfit.

We had decided that Gary would dress up as a court jester, in Leeds colours, so I picked up some crushed velvet, some bells and elastic and got to work. It was less daunting than you might think - Gary's a slim chap and he hasn't got boobs, so fitting a top and trousers was a doddle! I sewed a bell onto every pointed part of the outfit and used an old pair of his trainers to make slippers. Pointy toes and bells! When he tried the whole outfit on he danced up and down my street, attracting some passing girls who came and hung out with us in the street! I also made him a little wooden spoon with his face on it and bells and a hat!

My dress arrived - the dress itself was gorgeous, but too short! The lady who made it said that they were for people who are 5'7" but I don't think she factored in my boobs and bum! So I took the underskirt, took the hoops out and added black tulle netting at the bottom so that it was longer and showed underneath. Perfect.

Emails went back and forth from the hotel to Justin at Marston's and Nurinder the PR person, one of which I got copied into a bit later down which said

I appreciate where you’re coming from but would prefer to use banquet as an alternative to fodder (they’re a bit of a rough crowd, given they’ve requested Jagermeister on the bar, but they’re not animals!)

I was furious! It was 5 days 'til my wedding and he was calling us rough!?!? All I wanted was 1 bottle. Not Smirnoff Ice, not WKD not Bacardi Breezer. How dare he! I fumed for a few good hours trying to think of a comeback that would let him know how upset we were, but also not end up with the whole thing cancelled, but I decided to let sleeping dogs lie.

I purchased some extensions for my hair and booked an appointment at my hairdresser to get them put in, and to get my bleach done. I got the roots done and then the day we travelled, I went in and got my extensions put in. They were pre-curled and clipped up and they even bought me a special du-rag to cover them in white! My hairdresser is seriously amazing.

We piled into Amy's car and set off with the GPS telling us where to go. For some reason it took us through Bell Isle (ew) and every time we could see the motorway it threw us off at a tangent. We finally realised that it was set to avoid motorways. There was a huge amount of traffic on the way down, but we finally found the inn, left our stuff and went out to see the Travelodge that everyone else was staying in the night before.

We had brought booze with us to avoid having to pay extortionate amounts at the inn, but there was a pub over the road from the Travelodge, so we ate at the Happy Eater next door (it was so dead, they almost didn't cope with 11 people eating there) and then went for a couple of beers before we headed back to the inn. My auntie was staying there the night before, so the 4 of us drove back and we went up to our hotel room. The staff had put a Hello Kitty scented bed warmer in our bed - how did they know I love HK!?

The next morning, I was getting married...
