They're hard but they're sugary so they go soft quite soon after sticking them in your mouth.

but you can't chew them straight away, and they stick to your teeth, yes?

Does that make them hard? I wasn't sure but I suppose it does. *Changes answer*.

Erm, well... both?

I've had lemon bonbons (with sherbet in the middle) and the were hard! But I've also had some icky icky gross ones that were chewy!

O_o

um... if the soft ones were icky, then they're supposed to be hard, yes? :)

Ooh, no, they were supposed to be soft! They didn't have sherbet in them, they were like chewy things with a little bit of powdered sugar or something on the outside!

I'm going back nearly 20 years here! :)

Oh my god. I feel old now that I've typed that!

Your both right and wrong......

It's a hard shell covered in suger, so it's a 'hard sweet' however it soon becomes soft sticky and goey, witha goey center unlike a boiled sweet so it's soft.

On my desk here I have Pascal Fruit bonbons. They have a hard shell, but are squidgy inside. They come in lots of flavours and are wrapped in quite thick paper.

However, when I were a nipper, one could buy bonbons in lemon/strawberry flavour which were an entirel different sweet. Powdery outside covering a toffee inside. e.g. here

That's the sort I thought of and there isn't a 'both' to pick!

I picked "soft" but only because I associated them with being bonbons first! The other ones were just boiled sweets as far as I was concerned for years..

Your right.... there are the bonbons which are a sort of boiled sweet in a hard shell with a really soft almost liquid center. They tend to be square

And then there are the round ones with a dusting of sugar that stick to your teeth.

Man, lemon bon bons. They were class.

Going to that site has made me hungry. There seem to be far too many new and exciting types of powdery bonbon to try now!

Bonbons are kind of both - I tick soft because they have that kind of gumminess to them - they're not hard like boiled sweets or hard toffee. More like soft toffee or very macho fudge.

Toffee Bonbons are soft & sugary on the outside with toffee on the inside which gets softer the more you suck on it..
