IMDB top 250 Movies and my quest to watch them all

This is the IMDB top 250 Movies as voted by for the users [admittedly most of them are idiots, but still...].

I set myself a task a while ago of watching them all after I got fed up of people saying "You've not seen X? OH MY GOD how do you live with yourself/you're an idiot/it's amazing you HAVE to see it."

I watched all 3 LOTR films, extended edition in a row, 11.5 hours. I will re-watch Star Wars and I actually enjoyed watching The Godfather trilogy.

Oh, and if anyone wants to make some more suggestions to the list of things I should have seen, please leave a comment here!

I'm so glad you liked 12 Angry Men. It's one of my all-time favourite films. I won't recommend anything not on that list because there are so many other movies which are on it that I adore and you haven't seen. Dr Strangelove, Raging Bull, The Great Escape, Bridge on the River Kwai, The Elephant Man and Scarface immediately come to mind. All are from that golden age of cinema when acting was more important than whiz-bang special effects.

There is however one movie in that list which, if I was marooned on a desert island with a choice of just one film to take with me, I would definitely have. Glory. You must see that.

You could safely avoid Braveheart though. :)

I don't know, I guess it's the whole mixture of violence (badly done or not) and sado-masochistic sexuality that kinda creeped me out. Audition was more about the depths of depravity that obsession with a particular person can lead a person to. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. And I'm not even sure I liked Ichi, but I do feel it was somehow important to see it.

Irreversible's the Italian movie with the really long rape scene, right?

I understood it!

The problem was they WERE the same actresses!

The first half was all a dream - the failed blonde actress was in love with the successful dark haired actress, and the part where she has amnesia and they fall in love etc. was all in her head. Then she wakes up and has more horrid things done to her by the dark haired woman so she hires a hit-man to kill her ex-lover and then she has halloucinations and kills herself.

It was beautiful, great and stupid all at once. I don't know if I liked it yet.
