Flo-Rida!
http://mofette.co.uk/photos/v/Florida/ [Most photos pinched from Jhenn and Ed as my camera SUCKS]
Sunday the 27th of April
We had mostly packed already as I knew I had work on Saturday evening. What a Saturday evening that was too, we were stupidly busy and had a great time and cleaned up pretty fast and left promptly. Sunday Milf and I got up and watched an episode of CSI before getting in a taxi to the station.
We got to Manchester Picadilly and got in a black cab to take us to The Marriott Victoria & Albert. What a nice hotel! We took some stupid pictures of our hotel room and then went out to go to Hard Rock Manchester. Except then I realised that I'd forgotten my mobile phone. Milf called it and it was in the taxi, so once we'd got the driver to come back to the hotel with it, we took his taxi to Hard Rock.
When I ate at Leeds once, I asked for an open-faced steak and was told that they didn't' have any of that cut, but I could have the strip steak done open instead which is to have onions, mushrooms, cheese on top and a garlic toast underneath with fries on the side. I asked for this in Manchester and he said "So that's with the onions and the mushrooms?" I said yes but instead of getting my gloriously cheesy steak, I got extra onions and mushrooms which cost £1 each[!] on top of my steak, which had broccoli and mashed potato on the side, which I hate. Fail :( The server was also quite rude when he asked if everything was ok and I said "Well I meant that I wanted the fries and the cheese instead of everything else" and he just confused me further. I hate when waitstaff don't use a pad to write down what you order. I have no idea if he made the mistake or if the chef did. It was ok as it happened, but I resented paying £17 for essentially a piece of meat some onions and some mushrooms.
After that we moseyed on down to Fab Manchester, where we met up with
diffrentcolours who educated us in the ways of NO2ID as well as half-watching Brazil with us. We drank a few more than we meant to and all went our separate ways home, ours ending up with us in MacDonald's at 12am then watching Celine Dion in concert on TV in the hotel. Most peculiar.
Monday the 28th of April We woke up nice and early to get to the airport, got in a taxi, on one train and were there. Unfortunately I don't own a printer so I didn't have a chance to print out our itinerary so I had to call
bigmoma to ask which terminal the plane left from. We finally got there, checked with the desk and joined the massive queue for US Airways, finally getting to the section where they check our passports. The lady then told me that she couldn't find our return flights. I was a bit concerned but she just told me to ask when I was coming back. We answered our usual questions about who packed our luggage and where it had been, got to the front, got our tickets and went through.
Once we got through the security clearance where the guy laughed at my passport [I'm so getting used to that because my photo looks like Eddie Izzard and I was a 17 year old girl!] we pottered around and then had breakfast at Burger King.
We wandered down to the gate and sat around waiting. Milf was called up as his ticket was in zone 2 and mine was zone 7. A nice lady was concerned that we weren't sitting together, bless her but all was fine. Milf got the window seat and we went off in the air. We didn't buy headphones to watch the TV with 'cause there was nothing on we wanted to watch. One of the flight attendants was a right asshole and acted like everything we asked him for was too difficult. We got to Philadelphia, passed through passport control with no problem at all and grabbed our suitcases and put them back into the system for the internal flight.
We grabbed some tea and a bag of crisps and got onto our second flight, napping briefly on the flight before we arrived in Orlando!!
web_kitten was waiting by the baggage carousel along with her boyfriend Ed, and our friend
ncender and his friend Gregg. We took our things back to the hotel in our nice bright blue Chrysler. We stayed at The Rodeway Inn International Orlando. Our room was quite big for the very cheap price we were paying. We swapped presents, Ed had brought me the tattoo magazine that my tattoo was featured in in Japan and Jhenn bought me some lovely zebra print shoes that happened to match the socks that I was wearing that day.
We went out and ate at a place called Thai Tani where I had steamed dumplings for starters and I actually can't remember what I had for my main course, only that it was gorgeous. That's terrible isn't it? Knowing me it was probably spicy and had lots of chillies in it.
We went back to the hotel room afterwards and sat around and drank a few beers after we hit up the grocery store next door. Milf and I got some packs of beef jerkey and we bought the ingredients to make turbo shandys which we introduced the yanks to. Yay for sugar and crap in beer! :D
Tuesday the 29th of April we woke up and decided that we needed to go to a supermarket. We went to one not far from where we were staying, using the magic of the satellite GPS to find us one. We shopped for a while and then went nextdoor to The Einstein Bros Bagel Co. where we had GORGEOUS bagels and some tea. Jhenn and I popped next door to the health food shop where I bought some vegan jerky [which Milf and I decided tasted like liquorice] and some cream cheese.
We picked up Nick from his house, where we saw a load of little lizards and the grounds staff looked at us suspiciously. We drove to a shooting range on 39th street. We explained to the man behind the counter that we didn't know how to shoot and he gave us a distressingly quick tutorial as to how to shoot and load guns. I chose a Glock 9mm, Milf had a Beretta, Ed chose a .38 revolver and Nick had another type of handgun. Jhenn asked for a rifle. The guy pointed to the first one and started "This one is an AK 47, This one..." "I'll have that one!" said Jhenn and we took all the guns into the range.
We had put ear protectors on and eye guards but still we all jumped as the man that was in there shot his next bullet. It was so fucking LOUD!! We all put up our paper targets and loaded our bullets. Mine was very difficult to load, the spring was so tight that I broke a nail doing so. I loaded 12 bullets and took my first shots. It was quite an experience. The recoil was quite a lot, even though he said it was the gun that had the least. I shot a set of 12 and looked around at what everyone else was doing. The ear defenders made it difficult to talk to anyone else so I shot 8 more rounds.
I found it difficult to enjoy it as the casings always shot out quite high upon ejecting. Some ended up inside my cleavage, others hit me in the arm and head and another hit me straight in the goggles. After I shot these 20 I went back outside to get some relief from the pressure of the goggles and also to take a break from the shooting. It was very sobering realising that I was holding something in there that could easily kill someone in the wrong hands.
I went back in and shot my remaining bullets quite quickly. I calmed down after that, and quite wanted to go back in. This is my target paper, I don't think I did too badly for my first time to be honest!!
After this we went for lunch at Tijuana Flats at the location on S. Kirkman Road. I had Chicken Flautas which is "Two lightly fried flour tortillas rolled tightly and loaded with your choice of filling + cheese. Served with all the toppings + a side of queso, guacamole and sour cream." the toppings being lettuce, onion, tomato and olives. It was fucking yummy! They had the most adorable display of hot sauces which all had a heat rating done with smiley faces and you could just get a little side of stuff. The waiter was really cute and he kept my drink refilled, which was nice.
After this we headed back to the hotel area and wandered over to play some Mini Golf. We decided on the Congo River Golf as it was directly opposite the hotel and next to The George and Dragon pub. We played a very enjoyable two rounds of golf that Ed won at both and then went for a pint. When I got there they only had Magners instead of Strongbow, so I ordered a Blackthorn. Unfortunately it was flat and when I asked very nicely for another one I Was treated with disdain and as if I had no idea what I was on about. What the fuck? They begrudgingly replaced it with a bottled Strongbow [I fucking hate Magners] and then Jhenn heard them talking about the Blackthorn afterwards, saying that it did taste awful and flat. Fuck them.
As there was horrible English whales singing karaoke and the beer was shit we decided to retire for the night, so after Milf, Nick and I ahd a couple of beers in the lobby we went to bed.
Wednesday the 30th of April We got up nice and early and had a bowl of cereal each so that we could get to Universal quickly. Nick works at Hard Rock Hotel Universal, so he got us discounted prices in. We parked in the employee car park after a small amount of confusion with the old fuck who worked the car park trying to wave us over to the normal one then shouting that he didn't know we were employees [we were going to show you our pass once we got close, you old coot].
We flipped a coin and went to Islands of Adventure first.
We started off with the Incredible Hulk Coaster, which to our disappointment at the time, meant that you had to put your belongings in a locker. Milf decided that he wouldn't come on the ride so he waited for us with them. We went on the ride and OH LORD how good it was, you aren't expecting it to speed up as you go up, you usually speed up once you start to fall. It was good to in that your feet are sat on a floor as oppose to left dangling like a lot of other roller coasters.
I wanted to go on Doctor Doom's Fearfall, a vertical drop thing, but no-one else would and I didn't want to subject them all to waiting for me while I was there.
We went on The Amazing Adventures of Spider-man the 3-D ride, and it was much better once it was in English. When we went on in Japan we had no idea what was going on as I couldn't concentrate on the Japanese as we were flung about. This ride is a MUST SEE if you're going to a Universal.
After this we popped on over to the Toon Lagoon area and the Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges. This is your standard Rapids ride but with a lot more getting wet. Just when we thought it was over too, you've got more ride and then there are people shooting at you with guns that you can purchase above. Jhenn was not too happy about getting so wet so she and Ed did not follow us onto the other wet rides.
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls was so scary. At the front you can see this tremendously scary, high and steep log flume drop. I was so scared throughout the ride as I was expecting all of the drops to be that big one. God I was scared. I was less so after as I realised that rails stopped the boat from overturning. We also got extremely wet, as people had manned the guns and set them off just as we came back into the port.
Milf, Nick and I then also went on the Jurassic Park River Adventure. I have always loved that ride but it's so much better in English!!
After this we went on The Flying Unicorn which was amusing as all hell and then queued for The Duelling Dragons. [which incidentally they spell wrong] which had a stupidly long road to get there, but the ride itself was ok. It wasn't much of a duel once we were on there, we barely saw the other coaster due to the way we were strapped in, but nevermind.
We missed out on Poseidon's Fury and went to eat instead at Mythos Restaurant which has won the Theme Park Insider Award as the world's best theme park restaurant for the past four years. I had some steak with blue cheese and port sauce, along with some macaroni cheese [which was very bland]. The steak was amazing though and the waitress, although shit when we wanted to pay and took forever was nice and helpful when we ordered.
After this we decided that Seuss Landing was a bit childish for us, so we made our way to the exit. Unfortunately Jhenn had lost her phone in the restaurant so she went back for it. Nick called the phone to make sure of where it was and Jhenn was asked if he was Nick C from the Internet. Strange.
We passed on over to The Universal Studios resort and we went straight onto Shrek 4-D. This was quite fun although the waiting to get inside was tedious. A few of us hadn't even seen Shrek [although Milf and I had] but you really didn't need to know much as it recapped it all for you!
We then went on the Twister ride, which is very much like the Backdraft ride in Japan. I didn't think I'd seen Twister [although I now think I had] and it was a show type thing, with a simulated twister, explosions and rain going on. Pretty good!
After this we went to the Revenge of the Mummy ride. Probably the best ride of the both parks. I screamed a fair bit and it wasn't even that fast or went upside down!
After this we went on Disaster, which was a remake Earthquake that used to be there, which apparently was new in Jan 2008. It was very entertaining - Christopher Walken is funny as fuck, no matter what I see him in. This ride takes members of the audience to make a film and then you ride a disaster scene in a subway to make the final bits which they then play back to you. Quite funny all in all but they needed more scenes from the car you are sat in I think, rather than from the other cars.
We ignored Fear Factor live and went on Jaws. Aww happy memories. At least Milf and I could understand it this time instead of having a crazy Japanese man screaming at us from the front! They really need to clean the old boat that's supposed to have just been attacked in the water though, the tide marks are a real giveaway.
After this we went on The Simpsons Ride. This is a remake of the old Back To The Future ride and quite frankly, it rocks. During the queue you are shown clips from The Simpsons which only came to 30 minutes in length. To be honest they should make that longer as we were there for only 45 but still saw the same things twice. Surely with 19 series' it wouldn't be too hard to get new bits?
We were all pretty tired at this point and getting hungry, but Ed insisted that he wanted to go on The Hulk again so Milf, Nick and I went on to go to the Bob Marley bar, which to be honest was severely lacking. We only wanted to drink so we were stood at the bar before realising there were many free tables. After Milf sat at one for a while he was told to move which was fair enough, except the place was mostly empty and there were no stools at the bar.
Once we finished our first drink, we found some seats and sat down, only to have the bar tender ignore us for at least 5 minutes when she wasn't doing anything else, or serving everyone else before us. She also left my tip on the top of the bar, which wasn't cents or anything. Ungrateful bitch.
Ed and Jhenn finally came back and so we had one more drink and then went back to the hotel. We left them to themselves and Nick, Milf and I went next door to a place called The Great Western Steaks & Buffet where we ordered steaks with the buffet option for only and extra $3. I ordered the junior size and it was plenty, the crinkle chips had spice on them and the steak was amazingly perfect. I only had a couple of things from the buffet but the waitress was adorable. She asked me questions about Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen which made me laugh a lot and kept making sure that our drinks were filled. We retired to have more beer after our $8 pitchers, and Gregg came back to say hi.
Thursday the 01st of May Jhenn had gone out with Ed to meet some relatives, so Milf and I hung out with Nick on our own.
We went to IHOP for breakfast, and were defeated by the sheer huge size of everything there. Milf had Choc Chip pancakes and I had a Breakfast Platter. Then we went off for a drive. Nick took us downtown where he then realised there was nothing much to do, and so we went to the library and then left. We drove past Little Saigon and then down to the Fashion Square Mall where we bought comics and a new Munchkin game [which no-one played with us :(] and I got pampered in Torrid.
On the way back we called in at the Mall At Millennia I went to Mac where the new Naughty Nauticals range had launched, and I swapped my Fuscia that I purchased wrongly for a Pink Pearl and I bought a teal and a Mutiny. That new colour is gorgeous!!
We went back to the hotel to meet up with Jhenn and Ed who had returned and then went out for dinner in Little Saigon at the Viet Garden. Not before we'd looked around the dodgy anime shop next door where milf found me a pink leopard Hello Kitty cushion and jhenn had bought a couple of things. We also went to an Oriental supermarket where we bought wasabi peas and I got a pink fly-swat and colander [!].
The Viet Garden was nice, I had a chilli prawn dish and instead of being smart and taking it home for afters I forced it all down. Ouch!! Very silly. We said bye to nick back at the hotel as he had to work for the rest of the week and went to bed.
Friday the 02nd of May we got up leisurely and went to the Wet & Wild water park where we went on most of the flumes. First we started off with the Flyer, which we went down in 2's on. I worked out how to almost overturn the whole thing on Milf and I and then we went on the Blast which was great, you ride facing each other and then it turns on the way down. I got hit hard by the blast of water in my back but it was still fun!
We went on the Disco H20 which was our favourite and also on the Surge, stopping for a while to eat and have a beer, before going on the lazy river which is one of those where you don't have to do anything, you just go in relaxing circles. We then went on the Brain wash twice before chilling out a bit more, trying the Disco and the Flyer again as 4s, then the blast as single riders which wasn't as much fun as 2s.
Once we finished we went home and got changed before going out to the Taste of Hong Kong restaurant because Jhenn wanted Dim Sum. Unfortunately that menu stopped at 4 so we had other things, I had the Crab Rangoon followed by a gorgeous Chilli Chicken dish that I learned and took home afterwards.
We then went back to the George and Dragon because I was meeting some people from The SA Forums and we finally found them there. After they ate some english food and after specifically asking for mushy peas, getting normal peas and the staff being exceedingly rude again, we went to go do things. Ed and Jhenn didn't want to join us so Milf and I went to play Congo Golf with the goons :)
We had a good time playing non-competative golf and fooling around when Will found some extra balls, but Jason had to work the next morning so Dixie and them took back off. Was nice to meet normal people from the internet!
Nick joined us at the G&D after he finished work and we went back to the hotel to continue drinking in the foyer. Milf Nick and I watched shit tv and eventually went to bed.
Saturday the 03rd of May we got up lazily and wandered over the road to Sushiology and took it back to the hotel. I am telling you what, I have never had such good sushi outside of Japan, it was amazing. So friendly in there and the service was fast. After we finished Jhenn took Milf and I to the Florida mall. Milf got a charger for our DSes as everyone else had DS Lites and I got "Touching The Dead" which is House of the Dead for a DS.
We went to Build-A-Bear where I got a pink leopard, got her a pink leopard outfit and a pink leopard bear of her own. I think I have a problem. I also got a pink leopard Sanrio My Melody phone charm and some more damn makeup.
When we got home we got back in the car and went out to see Jhenn's friend from playing X-box live, Buster. We met him and his wife who were adorable and then ate pizza and drank beer while we played on Rock Band. That game is amazing I can't wait 'till it comes out in the UK. We had a great time in their lovely house and their kids are adorable too.
Sunday the 04th of May we got up early and went to Epcot. It wasn't as sunny as the day we went to Universal, but certainly not bad weather. Buster walked us in to the park and we first went on Spaceship Earth. It was quite entertaining although the fucking people behind us that kept using flash photography was shit and it also broke down halfway round, missing us half the story. Also it didn't take Mine or Milf's photos, so we didn't end up on the globe at the end, or able to send a postcard of ourselves in the future :(
Then we tried to go on the Test Track, but that too broke down after we'd been queueing for 40 minutes. Damn people. We then decided to wander off to the World Showcase, Milf and I walking quickly round most of it 'cause we were starving. We decided not to eat with Jhenn and Ed as we didn't want cous-cous and instead we went to the Teppan Edo restaurant in Japan where we had teppanyaki and a nice show.
After this we met Jhenn and Ed in Italy and walked around the rest of the world, where we stopped to see a show in China of crazy gymnasts, and in Norway we went on a crazy ride about Norway. One hint - if you ride this ride, that's cool but don't stay for the information show about Norway afterwards. It was like an anti-depressant or perfume commercial, nice shots of kids and puppies but no real story to it and no information. We left feeling pretty confused as to what we had just seen.
After looking at the Mexican market we went back to the Future World and tried the Test Track again. We rode as single riders to reduce the queue time and got done in 5 minutes. It was pretty good all-in all. We wandered over to Innoventions where Milf made me stop playing on Lego Star Wars and then went into The Land to hopefully go on Soarin'. Unfortunately the wait was 55 minutes, so we didn't go on that, but we did go on Living with the Land where we saw air-grown vegetables and pumpkins shaped like Mickey Mouse. Weird!
When we got back to International Drive we stopped at Popeye's Chicken and tried some chicken strips and their famous 'Biscuits'. They were actually quite good and the bbq sauce was amazing. Jhenn and Ed went out to eat Dim Sum and we stayed in and watched shit TV before having a few more beers before bed.
Monday the 05th of May Milf, Jhenn and Ed went out to go to the cinema. I wasn't bothered by Iron Man and certainly didn't want to see Harold & Kumar so I went out by myself.
I wanted to get a haircut, so I wandered down to where I thought I'd seen a hairdresser's. No such luck, it was a barber's. After walking for 1/2 an hour in the sun with no lotion [bad!] I asked at a 'tourist information' thingy. I was told that there was a salon in the Peabody Hotel. I got on the i-ride trolly and went down there, only to find that it was $75 minimum, rather than the $20 the 'information' people told me. Humph. So I went back on the i-ride, waiting with a man, to go to the Festival Bay Mall at the other end.
When I got there I walked in and asked their information if there was a salon, only to be told no. I walked off and exhausted, hungry and hot I cried behind my sunglasses most of the way round. I found a Hot Topic though, and bought milf the Star Wars Support Our Troops T-shirt that he'd really wanted for May 4th [be with you] but we'd not found in anything other than a S in 2 Hot Topics that we'd been in.
I waited for the i-ride back outside, only to find the gentleman that I'd been at the other stop with there too. We chatted for a while, he was a nice man from LA who was here to support his wife. He gave me some free passes for the i-ride and we got on a bus back to the main part [eventually].
Once I got back everyone else was already there. I had a shower and tried to do my hair in pigtails only to find out I'm too old for them :( Then Jhenn suggested that we went out, dropped the boys at Toys-R-Us and go get handbags. We did just that and I not only came out with a nice new yellow handbag, but I got some lovely FUBU trainers and a huge silly floppy hat too. Jhenn looks awesome in hers!
We then found a mexican restaurant on the internet, and we headed out to eat for Cinco de Mayo. We ended up at Azteca on S Orange Blossom Trl which was hopping and had a nice ice-bath outside with beer. We were seated after not long, and the amount of people that were in got lots smaller but our service was SHIT.
The lady forgot Ed's drink and then disputed it, ignored us for a long time, took ages to bring us beer only to tell us that we couldn't have that kind, and then took ages to bring the replacement, didn't get me sour cream for the chips when I asked and she said yes, our dinner when we did get it was stone cold, which was weird considering that the place was supposed to be busy. Surely it should have come out as soon as it was ready [it was ALL cold, so it wasn't waiting for something] and also didn't get Jhenn's food without Sour Cream like she asked. Honestly it was pants and very disappointing. Milf and I don't really like Mexican food anyway, so we didn't really want to be there in the first place.
Afterwards we went to the Pirate Adventure Golf, which has a reputation as the best mini-golf on the whole of I-drive. Didn't live up to it really, the holes were very unimaginative and even the ones with obstacles still had a straight line to the hole, meaning you could hole-in-one most of them if you were any good, leaving the rest of us stranded.
Tuesday the 06th of May Nick had the day off so we got him in the car and drove down to Cocoa Beach. We got there and Jhenn and Ed disappeared for something, so Milf, Nick and I went into the sea for a bit. I collected some shells and watched the sea. Afterwards we went to find somewhere to eat, and went to the Rum Runners bar that we'd seen on the way down. Unfortunately they didn't seem to be doing food but their service and beer was awesome. They had cider for $1 and it was really locals sat around in a bar but it was nice enough.
We looked at the chinese place next door but it was a bit poo, so we chose the places on the GPS with the silliest names. We chose something like a Parrot bar and a coconut something-or-other but there was no parking so we went back up the road with a view to going to the next place we saw. We ended up at Gregory's Steak and Grille. We didn't see the menu outside and we wished we had as once we saw the prices we left. It was stupidly expensive. Good job too as the reviews online don't seem to be too favourable. Stupid.
We went to Ron Jon's shop for Jhenn, but Milf and Nick and I didn't want to buy anything so we went to Shark Bite next door for a beer. It was pretty nice there but the food was uninspiring and the brats that tried to get in my toilet door were making noise so we left.
We drove all the way back to International drive for dinner. On the way back Ed managed to get Milf's hand stuck in the car window by turning on the aircon and shutting the windows without telling us. We ended up at the Nile Ethiopian restaurant where we had some very strange food. I went with Steak Tartare which was ok, but the bread was strange and Milf and I didn't like it at all. I ended up with stomach ache all evening :(
We left Jhenn and Ed to go home by themselves again, so Nick and Milf and I went to the dinosaur golf by way of Baskin Robbins. I later found out that one of the founders died the day we had their shakes, so I'm convinced I am bad luck!
Dinosaur golf was very ghetto - heads were missing off the dinosaurs and things. We went home pretty soon after that as I wasn't feeling well.
Wednesday the 07th of May Ed went home today, so Nick and I got to see us some Jhenn. We all went out to Wet & Wild after a light sushi lunch at Sushiology again, where we showed Nick all the rides and had a lovely relaxing afternoon.
In the evening we went out to eat at the Outback Steak House We had a huge bloomin' onion to start with and then I had a really rare [it was still pink on the OUTSIDE] lovely steak and crab cake and finally found myself a Key Lime Pie to take with us [I've been obsessed since I saw Milf playing on Kingdom of Loathing]. We found a Big Lots where I got a small amount of fake tan [sssh!] and some Lucky Charms for Martin, we found a liqor store where I got lots of Wild Turkey to bring home for people and then we drank loads at the hotel, Nick got too drunk to drive so he slept on our floor.
Thursday the 08th of May Next morning I had Key Lime Pie for breakfast and we finished packing so we could leave promptly. First we went off to a gift shop so we could buy our niece a cute pink leopard print outfit with tinker bell on it and then we went to the airport, saying goodbye to Nick :(
It took forever to get our tickets at the airport, but we eventually did and then went off to get some lunch.
My 3-year quest ended as there was a Chic-Fil-A in the airport and I finally tasted it's goodness. I was very happy.
Our journey home was quite uneventful - we had nice sushi in Philly airport on the way home and had the same asshole flight attendant who ignored Milf on the flight home. We didn't sleep too badly and finally got to see National Treasure 2, as we paid for headphones on the way back. Once we got back we got straight through customs, unlike the stupid bitch who was flying in the chairs behind us - she'd done something and got her stupid, privileged, daddy paid for ass deported, a fact that she told anyone on the plane and made a guy lose his window seat. Stupid cocksucker. Now she can never return to the US. Ha!
We got home, Milf picked up his GTA4 that arrived the day we left, and now it's like we never left. Orlando is too far away for my liking but at least the weather has been nice since we got back.
I know no-one's going to read this now that I'm posting it on a Friday night but hey, no-one reads anything more than 3 lines anyway ;)
