Well, I'm now coming down to London on Sunday to see [livejournal.com profile] needler and [livejournal.com profile] nadnad and then say goodbye to Lisa on Monday.

What the fuck happened to thetrainline.com? Not only do they practically insist on insurance, they they charged me 50p for using a debit card. THEN they charged me 50p for picking it up from a machine in the lobby. Seriously? At least I'm going first class, so I can travel relaxed and sat down.

It didn't work? It's an .avi file, not a dvd although it plays on ours. Shame really :(

Use one of the train company clones of TTL, they mostly haven't adopted any of the extra charges, I tend to use http://www.eastmidlands.trainsfares.co.uk/

nationalexpresseastcoast.com are good - they don't charge extra fees and actually give a 10% discount for booking online. I booked a return ticket from Leeds to London from them for only £13.30 earlier.

TheTrainline's engine is used almost universally for purchasing rail tickets. Some bright spark has thought "Hey, if we charge a little bit of money for the convenience of, say, ACTUALLY PICKING UP YOUR TICKETS ANYWHERE, we can make £loads!".

I'm glad you can make it down, although wish it was in different circumstances.

it is indeed lots of shit - I booked the other week to go to Manchester, got charged the 50p for using my debit car AND £1 for the tickets to go in first class post - last time I checked, first class post was NOT £1. tight bastards! think from now on I'm just going to go to the station and book there instead!
